What's Going On?

As there has been an increase in accounts of unsafe and distressing situations during nightlife, there have been many differing responses to the rising issue.  This forum serves as an additional, quick, and simple, resource for establishment owners and operators to help their patrons.

A Different Menu

Safe Sips Posters is a resource from which establishment owners can take inspiration to help their patrons.  The idea is for a different kind of menu poster to be posted in the restrooms outlining services their patrons may need but not know are available.  This can include security options, local cab numbers, the location address, non-alcoholic options, how staff can help them, or simply that water is free.  The posters do not have to be fancy, they can simply be standard-size paper taped to the wall, making it affordable for owners.

Angela's Roots

A rising term called "Angel Shot" gaining popularity back in 2016 was started by the Safer Sound Business Network for establishments in the London area.  Initially starting with patrons who found themselves in an unsafe situation asking for "Angela" to staff, signaling their distress.  According to the Metropolitan Police "venues that support 'Ask for Angela' have been given Welfare And Vulnerability Engagement (WAVE) training," allowing staff to handle situations to the best of their ability until help can arrive. The Lincolnshire County Council created the original notion, the Metropolitan Police started enforcing the idea as per the Safer Sound Business Network in 2016 and WAVE training was introduced in 2017.  Though soon after the popularity among establishments, staff started taking WAVE training online through webinars.
